The Problem With Contentment
It seems like people are never satisfied with their lives. They have a good job, an amazing family, and all the clothes and food they will ever need. But they “need” a great job, and a better family, and more possessions. Why are we never content with what we have?
Society and people of this world (non-Christians) think that happiness comes from possessions. They tell us that we will be happier if we have a brand new car or a higher paying job. There is nothing wrong with wanting a new car or job, but if it gets to the point where you become depressed because you don’t have that fancy new thing then there is an issue. When you start feeling sorry for yourself because you don’t have this or that, It’s time for you to dive into the Bible and see what God has to say about being content with what you have.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5
When I realize that I am not being grateful and I just want more, more, more and I’m not satisfied with my life, I change my thinking. I’m a Christian so I have Christ! I don’t need anything else! I have the most amazing family ever, a roof over my head, and food on the table. My family may not be rich, but we have enough to live on which makes me thankful for what God has given me!
Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
Ephesians 5:20
It’s hard to not worry about paying bills and to make sure you have enough money to provide for your family, but you don’t need to worry if you will be able to pay next months rent because God will provide for your every need! Be content!
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
The next time you think “If I had a new job my life would be so much better,” or “If my husband just helped clean the house more often than life would be so great,” think about what God has giving you and be thankful for your job, husband, and the clothes you are wearing! This will be sure to change your thinking.
